Small tasks scattered across the day can eat your attention, because each one means switching modes. Batching means grouping similar jobs and handling them together in one planned block.
How to try it
- Keep a running list of small tasks by type: messages, calls, errands, admin, quick fixes.
- Schedule one or two short blocks for each type, for example "emails at 11:30 and 16:00".
- Outside those blocks, capture new items on the list instead of handling them right away.
- During a block, work through the list in one go with a timer running.
- Keep batches short. 20–30 minutes is often enough.
- Pair dull batches with something pleasant, like a favourite playlist or a drink.
Why it can help
Fewer context switches leave more attention for the work that really needs it. Knowing there's a set time for small jobs makes them easier to ignore in the meantime, and a timed batch turns a pile of little tasks into one clear, finishable job. In FocusCrew you can give each batch its own planner entry and timer session.
